This last weekend, a bunch of my friends, went to Colorado to go skiing. It was so much fun! We all had a blast! And yes, I will be posting pictures of the trip soon! But I wanted to share with you this. We went to Mass on Sunday morning in Silverthorne, CO, at this Catholic church called Our Lady of Peace. It is a beautiful, small mountain church, with windows all around, in which you can constantly see God's beauty of the mountains each way you turn. The priest there, had a pretty bold homily. Talking about sin, and how our culture is falling into the modernism of everything, in which certain sins are becoming a
normal instead of taking a stand against them. Mentioning things such as, using the name of God in vain or the way one dresses. I haven't heard a priest talk about those issues in a long time. So anyways, one thing he talked about was attending Sunday Mass, and I really liked how he explained the importance of it. He said so many people only go when it's a convenience to them. They don't make it a priority. And if one does miss, they don't think it a priority to say sorry to Jesus for missing, they just go on as if nothing got missed. I will do my best to explain how he said it.....
If we would be invited to a friends house for dinner some evening, and told them we were coming, and then ended up brushing it off, not showing up, kinda like standing them up --- we wouldn't come back the next time and just go in and sit down, eat, and pretend like nothing happened. We would go to our friend and tell them we were sorry for not coming, for forgetting about them, and restore that friendship we had before. The same should go for Mass. We are coming to the greatest meal of all... Jesus in the Eucharist... the greatest gift Jesus could ever give us. We need to make sure that friendship we have with Jesus is true and honest. Tell Him sorry when we mess up, and He will take us back in the biggest hug ever! :)
And he ended it like this... "If you feel guilt from my sermon... remember this-- Guilt is like gasoline, it's meant to get you going, get you places, but not meant to have you dwell on it." Feel the grace and mercy of Jesus during this season of Lent.
